Campus Rock Idols : A so-called-rock-literates’ view

The day before the day before the big day :

After a really long day in college, I dragged Alpana’s butt to M G Road to get passes for CRI . But first, us hoggers had to make a quick stop at KFC where I decided to try the Chicken Snacker, good stuff but I think I’ll stick to the Zinger from next time onwards. Done with that, we were off to Planet M to get the much wanted passes. I go there only to find out that they’ve only got passes for the regional event, the ones for the finals are all over!!!! Did a little stomping about in frustration and made my way out. Next, we headed to Westside, was in the mood to do a bit of shopping. I ended up buying a baby pink colored Tee!! God knows why??..Must be the hormones acting up. Anyway, from there we walked to ‘Pasteur’, no trip to M G is complete without a vanilla choco dip from ‘Pasteur’. Had the ice-cream only to remember that I needed to buy groceries from Dorabjees’. So, we dragged our asses back there, bought what was need (chocolates, soap, girl stuff, etc), got a bite to eat, got into an auto and made the crappy journey back to Viman Nagar. I cant really remember what happened after that, think I feel asleep or something. Whatever it was, I’m sure it wasn’t important.

Verdict: Pretty good day


The little day before the big day :

The passes said that the gig was supposed to start at 3pm so I figured we outta get there by like 5.30 if we don’t wanna miss anything. As usual, we first had to make a quick stop to hog so we decided upon Gold Adlabs. With our tummys stuffed, we were finally off to CRI!!!! On entering I was greeted by the most surprising sight, the gig had already started quite some time back!!! Met up with AJ, Abhey & Agnav (that spellings gonna be sooooo way off!!!). As expected a certain someone called ‘Shades’ was there in all his green glory. Tried my best not to pay attention to that (must say I failed miserably!). None of the bands were truly any good. Was shocked to see the puny SID guy on stage with the 2nd runners up! Gotta give SOS some credit for their progress. When I saw them like 5 months back, they were like pure crap, this time they were adulterated crap. Best part of the gig was seeing Abhey get into the mosh pit, it was so hilarious! He just went and stood at the center of the pit & did nothing for awhile. Being as huge as he is, no one really dared to do anything to him. After some time, he actually did do some moshing, it was all still very funny though. Due to time constraints we had to leave at 2100hrs thereby missing a lot of the show, nothing new there though (hostel life sux!!!!)
Spent sometime discussing the event with Alps & then fell asleep.

Verdict: Tiring day (due to prospectus stuff)


The big day:

This time we decided to get there a bit early. Reached at 5.30 (again) but all was in vain cause we had a 45mins wait ahead of us. Almost forgot to mention the whole ‘trying to get passes ordeal’. The first thing I did in the morning was to message everyone I could think of, ask if they had passes and beg ‘em to try and get me 2. As expected, I DID NOT succeed. Decided to take a chance & go there with our college IDs. Met up with Ruben at the gate. The Idiot refused to ask the security if we could get in with our IDs so impulsive Alpana marched upto the man three times her size & posed the question. Turns out college IDs were totally alright. Now back to the long wait, as we waited I scanned the grounds to catch a glimpse of you-know-who. Didn’t look like I was gonna get lucky. After quite a bit of doing nothing we were joined by Kush to do some more of nothing. The events that followed were a total breeze in my mind, Shades came, slapped Kush on the back, I was busy on my cell, he said a few words, I was too startled to say anything & then he left. But then again, my reaction was expected. At least now, I knew he was there & could spend the rest of the evening gazing in his general direction. Anyway, bands came, played so-called-music & left. Most of ‘em sucked, just liked Heavens from B’lore(they played Yellow & Alive). Met Chetan & Aditya. They were chilled out as always. Got introduced to another friend of theirs called Salil. Pretty funny guy. The gig ended with ‘a sighting’ so all was good. Went to Uncle’s Chinese after that to grab some dinner, got into an auto & got back to the hostel. Was left with a few good memories of times spent staring at someone & some funny conversations with Alps & others. It really wasn’t what I’d expected it to be. Thought it would be 2 solid days of rock but it didn’t turn out that way at all.

Verdict : Day was over hyped


Apologies for the lack of anything interesting & the lack of details, today being 14th Feb & all I’m not in a mood to write about it but I just wanted to get it over with.
